BioMed Central was launched in May 2000 as an independent publishing house committed to providing immediate free access to peer-reviewed research in the biological and medical sciences. It is the largest Open Access publisher in the world with over 150 journals in its portfolio ranging in selectivity and subject speciality. All research articles published through BioMed Central are Open Access, which means:
  • They are universally accessible online without charge.
  • They are immediately deposited and permanently archived in PubMed Central, the free-access repository of peer-reviewed research in the life sciences run by the USA's National Institutes of Health, as well as other national archives.
